Increase Productivity through Accurate Imaging

In this era of depleting resources, the questions of if, where, and how deep to drill are on every oil and gas company’s agenda.

Accurate seismic images are critical for successful well positioning. These images, however, are often based on wrong assumptions about the subsurface structure.

Conventional processing uses a single common midpoint gather and simplified velocity models. Yet a lack of data fold and uncertain velocity analysis in conventional processing could significantly affect the accuracy of the subsurface model. More specifically, in areas of complex geology with low signal-to-noise ratio of seismic data, a traditional seismic processing sequence results in an unreliable subsurface image. This may lead to inaccurate or erroneous interpretation.

Geomage offers a highly effective method for addressing this challenge.

The Geomage patented Multifocusing technology is a macro-model-independent technology that provides a cutting-edge alternative to conventional seismic processing. It is based on a non-hyperbolic moveout correction that provides a better approximation of true reflection time than the hyperbolic one, especially in complex geological environments. The method consists of stacking seismic data with arbitrary source–receiver distribution near the central points. The Multifocusing stacking procedure produces high quality images, close to an accurate zero-offset section. An optimal set of Multifocusing parameters is critically important for seismic wavefield analysis.

Accurate time imaging is an essential basis for depth imaging. The Multifocusing technology does not compete with depth imaging. Rather, it complements the depth imaging procedure, by improving resolution, helping to construct an accurate velocity model, and supporting a more reliable depth image.

Furthermore, Multifocusing optimally accumulates diffraction events and preserves diffraction energy. This information is crucially important for migration.

Geomage Multifocusing can be applied without a priori knowledge of the subsurface model. The data describes itself and does not require the construction of user-defined models that carry a high probablity of error. Where conventional methods fail, the Multifocusing technology delivers high-quality results, even in areas with poor seismic data quality.

Geomage Multifocusing replaces both NMO and DMO corrections.

By stacking of a large number of traces that cover extended areas of reflectors, Geomage Multifocusing significantly raises the signal-to-noise ratio of output images.

Geomage Multifocusing may be the only method that is able to obtain sufficient data for comprehensive geological interpretation in areas characterized by complex geology, a high noise level or low-fold seismic data.

The Multifocusing technology delivers precise images on land and marine, 2D and 3D data, and is particularly effective when working with sparse data, legacy data, and in areas of complex geology. It has proven its advantages in a variety of geological conditions in many locations worldwide.
